Principle: Possession
Sub-Principle: Create and Exploit Space
Sub-Sub Principles: Combinations or Passes to Break Lines
Part 1 - Technical Activation

In the first part we created an activity where the players did various passing repetitions. We were particularly interested in challenging the first touch pass - some players have a good grasp, but others still need some work with this.
When we introduced the wall pass I could see that some players grasped the concept, others struggled a bit. Perhaps the concept was too vague - I wanted to avoid overly controlling the movements but when doing a topic like this perhaps more structure would have been best for the activation portion. Having to conceptualize the wall pass and decide the route of execution might have been too much to process initially. I think the key here for next time is to begin with a highly structured exercise and then progress to more freedom / less structure.
The 1v1 possession game we played was excellent - it wasn't executed as efficiently as I would have liked but I think its more so because the passing technique needs to improve. This game is a great way to challenge that. Maybe next time the rule is you can't pass to the same side you receive from and eventually I'd like to build to a 2v2.
Second Part - Tactical Game

In the second part we designed a 3v3+3 possession game. The players were able to score only two goals but I think it was a good challenge. They remained focused and motivated to play so I think its a good sign that they felt challenged by the game.
The one-time finish is a must, they need to learn how to: (1) execute a first-time action and (2) make decisions quickly, before the call comes to them.
We need to continue to work on spreading out, there are instances where we spread out and move the ball well but other times where we don't.
We should continue to utilize multi-directional games to enhance creativity and have multiple ways to score.
Final Part - Game
For the final few minutes I let the players play. Some good instances of passing but there is a burning sensation to always go forward we need to continue to emphasis patience in possession.
For Next Session:
- Various tempo-ed passing (2-touch, 3-touch w/ feint, 1 touch)
- Rondos
- Multi-directional game
